Your Chakras and You (Part 8)

The 7th Chakra is the Sahasrara, or Crown Chakra. Where the Kundalini begins in the Root Chakra and flows up the spine, it ascends at the Crown. Sahasrara translates to “1000 petals” referring to the white lotus. This Chakra is connected with Spirituality.

Associated with the element of Thought, this Energy Center controls your connection to spirit, as well as your sense of universal consciousness, wisdom, unity, and self-knowledge.

If your Crown Chakra is blocked, you may be feeling a bit unstable in your physical body. Some of the physical signs of a blocked seventh chakra include:

• Imbalance

• Overall poor coordination

• Low ability to function, physically

When your Crown Chakra is blocked, you may also experience some mental signs, including:

• Confusion

• A lack of connection to the world

• Hyper/spiritualization (i.e too much meditation)

• Poor mental functioning

• A lack of focus

• A lack of trust and faith and others, and in the universe

• Feeling fearful, stuck, or stagnant

• A lack of clarity, purpose, and direction in life

• Preoccupation with your human experience and emotions

When you activate the Sahasrara and it is working effectively you:

• Feel calm and peaceful, even under pressure

• Make sound discerning decisions

• Feel deeply connected to all living beings

• Are firmly rooted in the present moment and regularly experienced moments of pure awareness

• See yourself as part of something bigger and trust that you are part of a divine plan even if it doesn’t make sense sometimes

• Feel connected to your intuition

To activate, unblock and balance your 7th chakra, meditate with the Sahasrara (Thousand Petals) Mudra and visualize a Divine Light. The Thousand Petals Mudra places your index fingertips together, and the tips of your thumbs together in a triangle. The remaining fingers are extended to represent a Lotus, but could also resemble a crown (photo credit @mariabrinkofficial):
